Isn’t grammar like everything else – once you know the rules you’ll know how to break them? Well, not exactly. However, coming from someone who does a very good job of not abiding by grammar’s looming regulations, I’ve found myself obsessed with a few bits and pieces that I dare not mess up for fear I’ll be forever banished from writing anything at all.

One such bit is “it’s, its’ or its”. I don’t know what it is about “it”, but I’ve struggled with this possessive contraction for years. And thankfully there are people like Andrew Huff who are sympathetic to my quandary. I’ve found his lovely little webpage, its not its. It’s enchantingly simple. Effective in its virtual world – a gentle reminder that we often make things far more complicated than then need to be. And that is it.
